HEALING HASHIMOTO’S: ONE SUPERFOOD SMOOTHIE AT A TIME
Welcome to Episode 12 of Georgina Szabo TV! I found out that I had Hashimoto’s disease after multiple miscarriages. Instead of just taking a pill I wanted to get down to root causes so I could really heal my body vs simply addressing a condition and putting a Band-Aid on it. After working with Functional Medicine doctor Stephanie Daniel I was able to put my Hashimoto’s disease in remission within 6 months and get pregnant naturally at age 39, and gave birth to a healthy baby girl. In the process I found my true purpose, which is helping others reverse their Hashimoto’s so you can reclaim your health too and live a fulfilling life.
I get a lot of questions around food and if you follow me on Instagram you know how much I love superfood smoothies. To this day I have one each and every day. In this episode of Georgina Szabo TV, I am going to share with you why it’s a staple in my diet as well as how to make a delicious Cinnamon Apple Pie superfood smoothie that everyone in your family will be all over so that you can see how easy and simple it is to make these smoothies!

When I met my Functional Medicine doctor she instructed me to follow an anti-inflammatory diet in order to support my body’s ability to heal. The goal was to lower inflammation in my body and what we eat plays a big role. I was told to avoid inflammatory foods such as gluten, dairy, soy, corn, sugar and peanuts. It felt very daunting to give up everything I was eating at the time. But I was determined to get my life back so I stuck with the plan.
As I was searching for meal ideas that would fit the bill, I came across superfood smoothies. When I learnt that these superfood smoothies decrease inflammation while supporting detoxification of the liver, kidneys, colon and cells in every part of our body-I knew I found my new go-to. Plus I needed something that was easy and quick to make and could take with me too since I was filming a lot of weddings at the time and being on the road and on location called for something I could throw in a jar. I started experimenting with recipes and fell in love with the various flavors and colors. It never gets boring!
Considering these smoothies are not only anti-inflammatory but gut healing, they were really perfect for me since we were addressing my gut too as part of my Hashimoto’s healing protocol. I had to heal my leaky gut and get rid of bad bacteria meanwhile promoting good bacteria growth.
Since these superfood smoothies aid detoxification they were totally inline with my detox protocol. To this day I have 1 superfood smoothie a day. It simplified my life in so many ways and sped up my healing process! And best of all- I could include so many more veggies that otherwise I wasn’t used to consuming such as bok choy, chard, kale.
I learnt most of my smoothie recipes from Gourmet Raw Food Chef & Nutritionist Educator Karin Collins. I love attending her smoothie resets that she hosts throughout the year and picking up new recipes! Today I am going to show you how to make the Cinnamon Apple Pie Smoothie that you can easily turn into a Blueberry-Apple Pie smoothie– so you will have 2 go-to smoothies right off the bat! Ready?
