HEALING HASHIMOTO’S: TAKING ACTION INTO YOUR HANDS

Hi there! Georgina Szabo here. I was able to put my Hashimoto’s disease in remission within 6 months. As a result I was able to get pregnant naturally at age 39, and gave birth to a healthy baby girl. In the process I found my true purpose, which is helping others heal Hashimoto’s so we can all live a happy, fulfilling life.

In this episode of Georgina Szabo TV, I’ll be sharing with you what I had to prioritize so that I could start feeling better.

Upon finding out I had Hashimoto’s I was put on thyroid medication that made me feel even worse. As soon as I took my medication first thing in the morning, it brought on the heaviest brain fog I ever experienced in my life. A thought would pop in my mind and two minutes later I forgot what it was. I would open up the browser on my computer and a minute later I couldn’t recall what I wanted to do. It made me feel like I was going crazy.

The scariest moment came when I was driving to a yoga event with my dear friend and yoga teacher, Elizabeth Shelhart. As I turned right onto a street in San Francisco I was driving on the wrong side of the road without even realizing it. I still hear Elizabeth’s voice in my head as she screamed: “YOU ARE DRIVING ON THE WRONG SIDE OF THE ROAD!”

That moment happened to be a wake up call for me. I could see crystal clear that taking and being on meds was completely useless and in fact a danger to my life. I thought to myself: I will die first before anything else happens if I keep taking these meds! The same evening when I got home, I tossed the pills in the garbage. It felt liberating- I had full confidence in myself that I can do better than these pills. I am not suggesting that everyone should toss their meds, but for me that moment defined taking action into my hands. Afterall, this is my body, I know it better than anyone else. I know what helps me feel better and what not. It gave me courage to follow my body’s needs and guidance, and learn to trust my intuition. It made me feel empowered instead of being scared.

I encourage you all to carve out some time for yourself when you can sit quietly to tune into to your senses and see what your body is telling you.

For me, getting off of meds and prioritizing sleep was key in order to start feeling better. I remember being so tired, exhausted, unmotivated every minute of the day that it felt very daunting. I knew I didn’t want to live a life like that for the rest of my life. So I followed my body’s call and went to bed right after my 5-year old, and I allowed myself to sleep for as long as I wanted. I was getting 12-13 hours of sleep on average each night and it felt so good. After about a month I started feeling better and having more and more energy to carry me through the day.

If you feel the same, I invite you to allow yourself to prioritize sleep. Do not fight it, instead follow your body’s lead. Sleep is restorative and healing on its own alone.

If you need help shutting down your thoughts, I am sharing a beautiful guided meditation by my dear friend and yoga teacher Elizabeth Shelhart, you will find a link to the meditation below this page. I am also including a few other resources that help me feel more relaxed and let go.
